Cannabis cakes made by Newcastle schoolboy

During the cookery lesson at the All Saints College in Newcastle, a 14 year old boy has made brownies which contained cannabis. The 14 year old boy has shared the brownies with four other boys in his class. The pupils have been taken to the hospital to be checked on and they have been discharged on the same day. The boy who made the cake has been arrested but was bailed out. He has been expelled from school, while the other pupils are suspended.
The school has informed to take incidents like this very seriously.

The first thing that comes to my mind is: why are 14 year old kids taking drugs? How did they manage to attain cannabis at this very young age. Besides this, I am wondering if there was a supervisor at the cookery lesson. Cookery lessons can be dangerous, that is why I expect good supervision, but where was the supervisor during this class? All in all, the school has handled this particular situation really well. In my opinion, expelling the 14 year boy and suspending the other four boys were the right thing to do.

  1. Why are they making a big deal out of a cannabis cake? I think they are exaggerating and they shouldn't have expelled they boy from school. I understand that you can't use drugs in school but everyone makes mistakes and the punishment that the school gave is not equal to what they did.
